Art Critique
A: This painting is
called “Composition 8” and is a geometric abstraction. It was created in 1923
by Wassily Kandinsky. I chose this because of all the shapes, objects, and
colors in this artwork. I see circles, triangles, squares, long/short sticks or
lines, a picture, etc.
B: In this artwork, the
shapes and objects are very close to each other and they all have a place. The
shapes like circles and triangles are repeated multiple times throughout this
picture. Kandinsky uses different colors like red, blue, yellow, and black
several times. All the shapes are going in different direction and he uses oil
on canvas. Its size is 55.1 x 79.1 “.
C: This abstract art by
Kandinsky was inspired by WW1. When he returned to his native Moscow his
artwork began to reflect his experiments in the Russian avant-garde. Also, my
hypothesis is him using different shapes to give us a little thought of what he
saw. The background is a dark blue/dark yellow so maybe this represents the sky
or outside.
D: I think this art is nice
and creative. You really must know the background of it to understand or else
you’ll think its just shapes and colors drawn. I like how he has a
meaning/purpose behind this painting instead of just drawing something. It
caught my attention from all the directions the objects were positioned.
